Holidays at the Cabin {Rachel}

 The day after Christmas we packed our bags and headed for the Cabin. This is probably one of my very most favorite holiday traditions! Just because it is so fun to be with family and have a good time. We snowboarded, went sledding, played games, watched TONS of movies, took lots of naps,
 snuggled with the dog, and ate (too much) good food!
((This was the first time I took pictures with my new camera, and I thought it was pretty great to being the official camera lady!))

A DOG? {Rachel}

The past 5 days we have had a lucky visitor staying with us... a dog. My family isn't really "the dog type" they have never been a favorite.

On Friday my mom was out on a run and brought home a 1 year old Black Lab. She doesn't like dogs either but it followed her all the way home! It really was the sweetest thing ever. It stood right on her foot while she was watering the garden, he would wait on the deck for us to come out and play with him, and he could  be walked without a leash!

At first we where just going to call the pound to come pick him up but our neighbor works at the Vet and told us that they 'put down' the dogs within 3 days if nobody comes to claim them. So we kept him for a while longer. We put flyers out on mail boxes, asked everybody we saw, but no luck. Finally I put him on KSL and a guy came to get him the next day. We all felt really good about the new owner, so hopefully it will all work out!

At the end of the day I was sad to see him go, he was a good dog!

{I know this is going to sound weird coming from me but}
We love you Odis!

Fat Lip 'Joe' {Rachel}

About a week ago at one of Reed's baseball games he had a little accident. He was playing Center Field when the 2nd base man missed a line drive. Reed was there to back him up but the ball took a bad hop on the way. This was the result:

Lucky for him he had just gotten his new retainer 9 hours earlier. His teeth where already super sensitive, but the retainer did save his teeth from getting knocked out!

Let me just tell you that you would be surprised to see what 6 days could do for a fat lip like that!
He is one tough kid!

Skating in the Summer {Rachel}

Last night we went Ice Skating! I thought it was kinda weird that we where Skating in the Summer, when we probably should be Swimming... but it was good fun all the same! :)  The Baxter's invited us, and because my dad is out of town we really had nothing else to do so my mom agreed to take us.

Jessica and I spend most of the time helping out little brothers find their feet. We had to laugh when Joseph fell down at least 3 times every time we went around the rink! Reed was a little more cautious though. By the end we where all Skating like pros.

Happy Summer!

A Memorable Memorial Day {Rachel}

Today to honor our troops we went to our 'Payson City Memorial Day Service' at the cemetery. It has become a tradition, because my dad served in the Army too, that we go pay our respects every Memorial Day. It was good and I think it is always super interesting to hear them tell old war stories.

After that we decided we where going to go on a little adventure of our own. We went to 'Camp Floyd State Park'  it is an old army base. Way back when they thought that the Mormons where getting so large in number and that they where going to take over, so they sent out 1/3 of the US army to Camp Floyd to make sure the Mormons stayed under control. Sooner or later they decided the Mormon people weren't really a threat and sent the men back to fight in the Civil War. But before they left the US soldiers had to burn everything so the Mormons didn't take/use it. There is only 1 building that remains of Camp Floyd today, it is an Inn/Stage Coach Stop/Pony Express Stop. It was pretty cool to see. And I always have liked learning a little more about US history.

At the camp today they where doing a 'Reenactment' of what it would have been like back then. So they had all of these little canvas tents set up that included a Doctors office, Barber Shop, a lady spinning yarn, a cannon show, a guy who did 'Medicine Shows', an example of what a stay at home mom did, and some other cool set up's. My favorite was the Doctor, he had a bunch of crazy tools! Plus he said when people got shot they would just cut the skin, pull it back, and 'amputate' the bone with a legit saw! (then of course sew it all back together) It was nuts! We also stopped at another tent and the lady was selling giant pickles! They where pretty dang good! ;)

What can I say? It was a memorable Memorial Day for me!
